Woodrow Lee Schultz age 85 of Grand Rapids, died Saturday, July 20, 2019 at the Oaks of Cascade in Grand Rapids. Woody was born June 11, 1934 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Woodrow M. and Dorothy (Haag) Schultz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Phyllis (Ottenjan) Schultz; son, Thomas (MaryAnne) Schultz; daughter, Brenda (Osbe) Hoskins; 5 grandchildren, Justin, Sean, Garrett, Scotty, Paige; 2 great grandchildren, Amir and Nalani; sister, Janet (David) Krupp; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Eileen) Ottenjan, Matt Ottenjan; sisters-in-law, Julie Carr, Fay (Tim) Wheeler; many nieces and nephews. Sports played a very important role in Woody’s life. He played football, basketball, and baseball in high school and basketball in college. Then he became a referee and umpire for baseball, softball, basketball and wheelchair basketball. He was a timer at Houseman Field for many years and was able to enjoy watching his grandsons and nieces run. He also enjoyed going to his grandsons’ football and basketball games and even their practices! The family wishes to thank Faith Hospice for the wonderful attention and care they gave to Woody. Per Woody’s wishes he was cremated. There will be a celebration of laughter and stories on Sunday, July 28 from 2-5 pm at The Pubb at 1568 Broadway (corner of Broadway and Richmond).
