Waneta Wilkins

January 11, 1920 — May 26, 2010

Mrs. Waneta “Tut” Wilkins, age 90, of Cedar Springs was received in to her home in heaven on Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Tut grew up in a loving home in Cedar Springs, cashiered at Meijer stores for 30 years, and was married to Bernard “Barney” Wilkins for 51 years. She is warmly remembered for the hundreds of notes she wrote that cheered others; her delicious peanut-brittle and chocolate chip cookies; and the delightful, true stories she told. She had great fun at family parties, loved and “lived for” her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, talked regularly to her Lord, adored ALL kids, and was devoted to her wonderful friends and church family. She was a generous and contented lady, and a long-time member of “The Springs” church. Surviving are her sister Onalee (Duane) Fisher; daughters, Sally (Richard) Hunter, and Sondra (Dan) Nielsen; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-laws, Rose Cole and Marge Cole; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Arthur and Gladys (Cook) Cole; sister, Marion (Story) Cowles; brothers, Wendel (Ruth) Cole, Waldo (Mary) Cole, Clem Cole, and Preston Cole; and nephew Tommy Cowles. Her family is grateful to Pastor and Mrs. Barry Briggs, Pastor and Mrs. Jay Johnson, Pastor Mary Ivanov, and the staffs at Metro Hospital and Faith Hospice for their great care. Thank you, friends, for showering Tut with prayers, phone calls, visits, cards, and flowers. There will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at The Springs Free Methodist Church in Cedar Springs. Pastors Barry Briggs, Jay Johnson and Wayne Cash officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. Private family burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to “The Springs” church (135 N. Grant St., Cedar Springs, MI 49319) or Faith Hospice at Trillium Woods (8214 Pfeiffer Farms Dr. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315). Arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
