Walter E. Dabney 82 of Pierson died Friday, October 30, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.Walt was born April 17, 1927 in Aurora, IL the son of James and Margaret (Olinger) Dabney. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy and retired from the Aurora Fire Department as a Lieutenant after 28 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Bette; children, Mary (Harry) Melick of Yorkville, IL, Michael (Kathy) Dabney of Oswego, IL, Melissa (Robert) Kiliszewski of Oswego, IL, Rebecca (John) Butler of Pierson; grandchildren, Keith (Jenn) Melick, Mandy (Chris) Melick, Russell (Kristin) Melick, Jonathan Butler, Nikki Butler, Emily Dabney, Scott Dabney, Jacob Kiliszewski, Nolan Kiliszewski; great grandchildren, Mason and Aiden Melick; sisters, Dellora McReynolds, Nancy (Joe) Chione, Marjorie Chapman; brother, John (Betty) Dabney; sister-in-law, Billye Ruth Dabney; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph; brother, Richard Dabney; brothers-in-law, Cooper Chapman and Richard McReynolds. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday 11:00 am at Mary Queen of Apostles, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Joseph W. Kenshol celebrant. Interment with military honors at Pierson Cemetery.
