Virginia C. Spicer

March 15, 1932 — September 15, 2024

Born March 15, 1932 Daughter of Hiram and Alice McKenzie, passed peacefully Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Grand Rapids. Virginia dedicated her 92 years of life to loving and caring for her family. Virginia raised her children to be strong and appreciative of what we had and believed in our individual abilities and aspirations in life. Our home was humble but always beautiful with her flair for decorating. Her artistic flair carried over to every aspect of her life while always warm, welcoming, elegant and classy. Virginia enjoyed creating delicious dishes adding her special flair to them as well as the perfectly set table they were placed on delighting all who had the opportunity to enjoy. Musically and artistically talented she played the violin and taught guitar in her own studio where she met her loving husband Joe. Virginia brought sepia photos to life with her artistic expertise at hand coloration for a well respected photography studio. Later in life she worked at a high end department store and became an award winning top sales associate.

Virginia loved her children deeply and was proud of them. She cherished and delighted in her grandchildren and great grandchildren believing them all to be special in their own way.

Virginia will be greatly missed and always lovingly remembered by her family.

Surviving are her children, Rebecca (Bryan) Ysasi-Gates, Daniel (Kathy) Spicer, Sarah (Lynn) Lennox; Son in law Richard Reed; Grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Reed, Daniel Reed, James Schaap, Mariah Northcutt, Virginia (Andre’) Rodriguez, Nathaniel (Addie) Spicer, Keely (Jake) Sendzik, Rachel (Ethan) Bean; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Dorothy, Dylan, Elena, Raelynn, Winston, Troy, Quinn. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; daughter, Deborah; grandson, Justin; brother, Gordon McKenzie; sister, Barbara Slater.

A Private Family gathering in remembrance will be held at a later date.
