Thearon J. Earegood, age 86, of Rockford, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 26, 2025, at his residence, surrounded by his beloved family.
Born on March 16, 1939, in St. Louis, Michigan, Thearon was the son of James and Pearl (Rogers) Earegood. He was a proud veteran who served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A lifelong learner and educator, he graduated from Michigan State University and went on to dedicate over three decades to the Internal Revenue Service and nearly 40 years to Michigan State University as a tax law professor.
Thearon was a devoted follower of Christ and a faithful, active member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, where he served on numerous committees, and as a deacon and church treasurer. His commitment to faith, family, and service shaped every aspect of his life and he was rarely seen without his wife, Duanda, at his side.
He was an avid sports enthusiast and a formidable opponent well into his seventies, with a throwing arm honed during his baseball years. On most days, Thearon could be found listening to classic country music with his ever-present Dr. Pepper by his side.
Thearon was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Todd Earegood; siblings Dolores (Clint) Norwood, Ellsworth (Leona) Earegood, and Arlo Earegood; and brothers-in-law Bernard, Gordon, and Phillip McAlvey.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Duanda (McAlvey) Earegood, whom he married on March 18, 1967; his daughters, Karmen (Leonard) Mead and Kara (Price) Whitfield; his cherished grandchildren, Estee, Trillium, and Todd Taylor, and Mateo and Ireland Whitfield. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Myrna Earegood; siblings-in-law Judy (Ken) Frick, David (Cindy) McAlvey, Jean McAlvey, Stephen (Penny) McAlvey, and William (Candi) McAlvey; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
