Terry Lee (Carter) Snuffer, age 76, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and devoted partner to Don, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, April 11, 2026. She is now pain-free and walking in Paradise with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Terry was born on July 27, 1949 to John and Leona (Start) Carter in Grand Rapids, MI. She was the second of three children, with her older brother Allen (Butch) and younger sister, Kathy. Terry grew up in Rockford, graduated from Rockford High School in 1968, and maintained lifelong friendships with classmates.
On December 3, 1971, Terry married Philip Snuffer at Rockford Reformed Church. Together, they raised their two children, Sarah and Dennis, in the Lowell community for 35 years, until Phil’s death in 2006. Phil and Terry had a wide variety of friends - dinner party groups, neighbors, co-workers. They enjoyed keeping an immaculate yard and garden, camping, and hosted many crazy three-wheeler parties. They both even had motorcycles at one point. Terry was also an avid fan of Lowell High School Wrestling and even followed the team long after her son graduated. Her home was always open to many of her kids’ friends who also called her “Mom”. Terry loved hockey- the Detroit Red Wings, and watching her grandchildren play for many years. She was very proud of her children - they knew it, and so did all her friends!
A few years after Phil’s passing, Terry was enjoying the Danish Festival in Greenville with their long-time friends. Coincidentally, these friends had “a cousin from Rockford” who was quickly identified to be an old classmate and friend of Terry’s - Don Wood. They went on a date one August afternoon, and from there, an old love was reborn. Don and Terry were soulmates, and for nearly 17 years they would travel the country - whether it was via Don’s Harley Davidson, with his job as a cross-country semi driver, or simply just for fun. They saw mountains, deserts, plains, oceans, and even a casino or two- or four. For eight winters, Don and Terry were able to spend several months in Belize, where she embraced her love of the beach and sun, and formed new friendships.
With Don, Terry gained two more children- DJ and Emma. Terry had a very special bond with Emma since she was so young, and over the years the two developed a special friendship. Terry was a huge influence on Emma, whether it was her love of cooking, reading, or simply enjoying time together.
Terry will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind- her best friend and soulmate, Don Wood; children, Sarah (Wayne) and Dennis (Renee), DJ and Emma (Justin); grandchildren, Carter and Avery, Darren, Craig, Trevon, Alexis, and Jordan, Jaxon and Ellowyn; sister, Kathy (Carter) Hartigh; many nieces, nephews, and her extended Carter, Snuffer and Wood families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phil, parents, Leona and John Carter, and brother, Allen Carter.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, April 17, 2026 at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs with visitation prior from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Beau Wilder Mental Health Movement, or Faith Hospice of West Michigan.
