Sue Louise (Dorman) McFarland passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015 at her home in Trabuco Canyon, CA. Born December 30, 1933 in Cedar Springs, MI, the daughter of Frank and Mildred (Louise) Dorman. Sue graduated from Cedar Springs High School in 1951, and attended Western Michigan University, where she graduated in 1955 with a degree in Education. Sue married Jack McFarland at Cedar Springs United Methodist Church on August 20, 1955, and then taught high school in Ann Arbor, MI. Sue and Jack spent a couple of years on the San Carlos Indian reservation where Sue helped in the school and they adopted two boys, Bert and Mike. Following this busy, fun time and the birth of their daughter, Chris, in Grand Rapids, MI the family settled in Scottsdale AZ. Andrew was born in 1964 which allowed Sue to enjoy raising the kids and participating in church and social groups. Sue was an active member of the Scottsdale Medical Wives Association and led the Camp Fire Girl troop. We will miss Sue’s warm heart and great sense of humor. She could laugh at anything and easily welcomed all people into her home. Sue’s practical wisdom will remain as a guiding light to her family. One of her favorite sayings was, ‘Things aren’t important, people are’. She is survived by her children Michael, Chris, and Andrew and two grandchildren, Edward and Alex, whom she loved very much. It was a special thing for Sue to be able to visit her grandchildren no matter where they lived. Sue moved to CA during the last ten years of her life to be near them, and was especially proud of attending her grandchildren’s high school graduations. A memorial service is being planned for Monday, May 4, 2015 at Elmwood Cemetery in Cedar Springs, MI at 11:00 am. Pastor Steve Lindeman officiating. Local arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
