Shirley Marie Hanes (Hanson) age 88 of Sand Lake, MI passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2024 after a long illness. She was a lifetime resident of Ensley Center. She was born March 20, 1936 to Hans and Hilda (Larson) Hanson. Shirley was the youngest of the five Hanson girls. Her sisters, Violet (Loren) Frey, Pauline (Norman) Kranz, Maxine (Gerald) Knox and Lorraine (Fay) Gordon all preceded her in death. Shirley married Jack on June 6, 1953 at the South Ensley Church. They built their home on Cypress where they still reside. They had two children, Terry and Tina. They lost their beloved son, Terry two years ago after a lingering illness. Shirley loved celebrating the holidays with family and friends and time spent at their little cabin in the woods. Her love and spunk will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Jack Hanes; daughter, Tina Simcoe; former son-in-law, John Simcoe; grandchildren, Michael Simcoe, Nikki (Dan) Hackstedt; great grandchildren, Danny and Elise; daughter-in-law, Debra Hanes; grandchildren, Luke (Liz) Dzwonek; great grandson, Henry; her best friend, Jeanette Denton. The family will greet friends Tuesday, May 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. A graveside service will be held Wednesday 1:00 pm at North Ensley Cemetery.
