Samuel David Magoon Jr.

December 6, 1948 — August 5, 2023

Samuel David Magoon Jr., “Dave”, a longtime resident of Cedar Springs, Michigan, is at last whole with Jesus! He was born in Grand Rapids, MI on December 6, 1948. His gracious departure came on August 5, 2023. He was preceded by his sister, Judy (Oom) Singleton; brothers, Timothy Magoon Sr., Thomas Magoon Sr., Michael Magoon Sr., Richard Oom, Jim Oom; parents, Ida (Osborn) and Samuel David Magoon Sr. Dave was a hard-working provider for his family. He had profound faith and a strong relationship with Jesus. He was an honorably discharged United States Army Veteran who served in Vietnam (1968-1970). He was an avid bowler with his brothers and nephews, and enjoyed slapping his knuckles on the table while playing cards as was customary for the Magoons. Dave was a devoted, loving and thoughtful father, and the sweetest best friend and love to his wife of 52 years, Sharon (Gunneson) Magoon. He was a quiet, private person with great integrity and an affectionate and fierce defender of his children and especially of his wife. He loved cheering on the Lions with Dave III, Go Lions (this is their year Dad)! The gentle way he taught his children provides many cherished memories; for instance, how to tie their shoes, patiently instructing them to ride a bike, the importance of having a good work ethic, being wise with your money and your words and so many other life lessons. His kind, tender devotion to his wife and the love for his family is deeply felt and will always be treasured. Sharon will continue to be very grateful to God for bringing them together and thankful for the tender-hearted love “David” freely gave her, his wise guidance and for the special ways he prepared her for this time. Thankful to God and looking forward to the day we are all together again, are Sharon; their children, Lisa (Nathan) Nagelkerk, Trisha (Dave) Watkins, Amy Magoon, Samuel David “Dave” Magoon III; sister, Bonny (Magoon-Matteson) Dussel; grandchildren, Deanna, Darrell, Shanice, Darrius, Miles, Samantha, Eva, Joe; great-grandchildren, Jay, Josiah, Analise, Aniyah; devoted beagle Mickey; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and their families. In lieu of formal services, Dave’s family is planning a celebration of life gathering; details to be announced. A special thank you to Emmanuel Hospice for their gentle, loving care and support. Donations in his honor may be made to Life International, Water for LIFE: https://lifetoday.org/outreaches/water-for-life/ Arrangements by K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
