Ruth E. Calkins

Ruth E. Calkins, 88 of Cedar Springs, died Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Mrs. Calkins was born March 27, 1920 in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of Leroy and Freida (Herzog) Wilson. She had worked for many local newspapers as a proof reader and ad setter. She had been a secretary for the Child Guidance Clinic and for the Statewide Speedhorse Association. Mrs. Calkins was a lifelong Lutheran and a life member of the Howard City VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are 3 sons, Eugene (Diane) Calkins of Cedar Springs, Joseph (Nancy) Calkins of Pennsylvania, Floyd (Betty) Calkins of Cedar Springs; 14 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; 1 brother, Paul (Betty) Wilson of Florida; 1 sister, Mary Wilson of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene in 1991 and a brother, Sonny Wilson. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs,where services will be held Saturday 11:00 am. Pastor James Calkins officiating. Interment Solon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Resurrection Lutheran Church, Sand Lake.
