Ruth Andrus age 90, of Sand Lake, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 after a long life filled with family, friends and travel. Ruth was born to Curtiss and Etha Mae (Trott) Beach in Cedar Springs. After graduating from Cedar Springs High School in 1948, she attended Western State Normal School (WMU). Ruth began her teaching career at Birchtown one room school house in 1951 and continued with the Cedar Springs Public Schools until her retirement. During her 36 year tenure in education, she taught levels kindergarten through eighth grade as well as being the head librarian at CSHS after receiving her MS from the University of Michigan. Ruth touched the lives of countless students with her kindness, knowledge and teaching skills. Ruth married Jack Andrus in 1951 and raised two girls. After retirement, travel took up much of their time. She is survived by daughters Gail (Gary) and Faith (Manny), granddaughters Katherine (Shawn) and Jennifer (Blake), brother Allen (Joan) Beach, brother-in-law, Fred Andrus. The family will greet friends Tuesday, January 25 from 11:00 am until time of service at 12:00 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Chuck Smith officiating. Private interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Cedar Springs Schools Educational Foundation and the Cedar Springs Historical Society.
