Roy Delbert Covell age 84 of Cedar Springs died Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his home surrounded by family, due to complications from prostate cancer. Roy was born May 5, 1938 in Pierson Township, MI the son of George and Jeanice (Morehouse) Covell. Surviving are his wife of over 63 years, Marjorie (MacKinnon) whom he married on December 20, 1958; children, Tim (Pam) Covell, Mark (Felomina) Covell, Cathy Jano; grandchildren, Heather (Ryan) Miller, Rachel (Mike) Wyma, Tyler Covell, Christian Covell, Sophia Covell, Jakan Jano, Joelle Jano; several great grandchildren; brothers, Leon Covell, Clyde (Peggy) Covell, Mack Covell, Keith (Sheri) Covell; sister, Judy (Leon) Lang; brother-in-law, George Cronk; sisters-in-law, Carol Shier, Dorothy Bishop; many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jeannie Cronk; parents-in-law, Cecil and Grace MacKinnon; sister-in-law, Avis Covell; brothers-in-law, Bill (Barb) MacKinnon, Jim MacKinnon, Pete Shier. Roy grew up in Cedar Springs and after graduation from high school, was a mason for Gust Construction for several years. He then owned and operated the grain elevator in Cedar Springs for 17 years. He was the original visionary and participated in the construction of Cedar Chase Golf Club. Throughout his later years he continued masonry work on buildings in Cedar Springs and the surrounding areas. Roy was a devoted grandfather who enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s athletic events. He was a member of the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. Roy was well known and liked by many in the Cedar Springs community. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 24 at 11:00 am at Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 8 at 12:00 pm at Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The family will greet friends at 11:00 am. Pastor Michelle Vallier of Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or Faith Hospice.
