Rose Mary Hackbardt, age 79 of Howard City, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at her home with her family by her side. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. After high school Rose worked at Standard Oil and married Harry Hackbardt on April 18, 1953. Soon after, they worked hand in hand farming and raising five children in Ensley Township. During that time she also worked at the bakery in the Howard City Plaza (Leppinks), Rosies Restaurant in Lakeview, and did home healthcare for several years. Rose was a member of South Ensley United Methodist Church for many years. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in a variety of activities, as well as baking her famous chocolate cake and baked beans. Her passion for life, caring smile, and deep love for others will be sadly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Bennitt and a brother, John W. Bennitt. She is survived by her devoted husband, Harry Hackbardt; children, Sam & Julie (McBride), Kim & Kimberly (Baxter), Pam (Hackbardt) Castle, Angie (Hackbardt) & Bob Anderson, Dan & Lana (Richard); grandchildren, Joseph, Spencer, Marissa, Hanson, Janel, Hannah, Kaylee, Kelvin, Kelsy, Karmen and Kiana; great grandson, Quincen; and a sister, Dorothy Krampe. The family will receive friends Friday from 4-6 pm at Resurrection Life Church, Rockford where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm. Pastor Larry Young officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at church. Interment will take place privately with the family at North Ensley Cemetery.
