Ronald R. Hoogerhyde, age 77, of Cedar Springs, died Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at his home. Ron was born December 22, 1943 in Reed City, MI, the son of Argyle and Lenora (Hoffman) Hoogerhyde. He graduated from Reed City High School and Ferris State Institute. He worked for Spartan Stores and retired as Facilities Manager in 1998. He loved the outdoors, fishing, boating and traveling with Mary, the love of his life. He enjoyed spending time and making memories at Todd Lake where the family has had a cottage since his childhood. Ron was crazy about his grandsons and could be seen beaming with pride with all they do! He had a larger than life personality with a gift for making those around him laugh, feel special and loved. He was very involved in his church and was a founding member of both Holy Redeemer in Jenison and St. John Paul II in Cedar Springs. Surviving are his wife, Mary whom he married on January 9, 1965; children, Stephen J. Hoogerhyde (Delilah Atkins), Paul Ronald Hoogerhyde, Laurie (Michael) Schmidt; grandsons, Kenneth J. (Elise) Hoogerhyde, Jarrett S. Hoogerhyde, Tyler Schmidt, Tanner Schmidt; sister, Janice (Jerry) Green; sister-in-law, Carole McKernan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vivian (Earl) Witt; brother, Tom (Connie) Hoogerhyde; brother-in-law, Tom McKernan. The family will greet friends Wednesday, June 2 from 11:00 am until time of Mass at 12:00 pm at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3110 17 Mile Road, Cedar Springs. Rev. Fr. Lam Le celebrant. Private interment Solon Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Paul II. Arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
