Robert L. VanderZee Sr.

Robert L. VanderZee Sr., age 84 of Cedar Springs, died Saturday, March 21, 2026 at University of Michigan Health West. He was born November 25, 1941 in Rockford, MI, the son of the late Andrew and Evelyn (Eberhardt) VanderZee.

It is with deep respect and quiet gratitude that we remember a man whose life was defined not by grand declarations, but by steady devotion, hard work, and love for his family.

He was a skilled welder by trade, someone who took pride in working with his hands and building a life through effort and perseverance. He approached his work the same way he approached everything else—with consistency, humility, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Outside of work, he found peace in the simple and enduring rhythms of nature. He loved fishing, especially along the Muskegon River, where he spent many hours pursuing trout and enjoying the stillness of the water. He also had a deep appreciation for gardening, tending to the earth with patience and care, finding quiet satisfaction in watching things grow.

More than anything, he was devoted to his family. He gave of himself selflessly, providing, supporting, and showing up day after day without complaint. His love was not loud, but it was constant—expressed through his actions, his reliability and his presence.

He will be remembered as a man who worked hard, lived simply, and gave deeply. His legacy lives on in the strength and values he passed on, and in the many quiet ways he made life better for those around him.

He will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Robert is survived by his children, Vicki (Kevin) Carter, Robin (Daren) Peacock, Robert VanderZee, Jr., Rick VanderZee; grandchildren, Christa McClellan, Sabrina Weston, Tashina Drovdahl, Brooklyn Vaughn, Landon, Preston, Dillon, Holden, Braden, Logan Peacock; great grandchildren, Everleigh, Ellis, Greylen Vaughn, Izabella, Malachi, Emberson, Myles, Atticus, Adelyn, Aubrey Peacock; siblings, Judy (Mike) Petersen, Dorothy Conner, Sharon (Derrick) Peacock; several nieces and nephews.
