Squires, Sr.: Robert D. Squires, Sr., aged 91, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 in the presence of his family. Robert was born and raised in Courtland Township, graduating from Rockford High School in 1934 and was an all star tennis champion in the state of Michigan. His work associations included, Wolverine World Wide, brokering for many insurance companies, General Motors and retiring from Michigan Wheel in 1981. Robert proudly served his country as a Military Policeman in the US Army having served in the Southern Philippines, Luzon. He was presented the following decorations and citations: a victory medal, American theater ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific theater ribbon with two bronze battle stars, Philippine liberation ribbon with one bronze battle star, three overseas bars and a service stripe. Robert and his wife Pauline wintered in Florida for thirty-five years. He was preceded in death by his brothers Forrest and Kenneth. Surviving are his wife of sixty-seven years and devoted caregiver for the past sixteen years, Pauline B. (Fisk) Squires, his daughter Brenda Squires of Duluth, GA, and son Robert Squires, Jr. of Rockford, a grandson Robert (Jennifer) Squires, III and a great grand daughter Nicole Squires of Grand Rapids, Mike (Vicky) McGaw, Kristen (Craig) Kleinman and their children of Cleveland, OH and his many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, with Rev. Michael Conklin of Courtland United Methodist Church officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Rockford Cemetery. Visitation for Robert will begin at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
