Robert R. Ries age 89 of Cedar Springs passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023 at his home after a difficult battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was born December 6, 1933 in Barberton, Ohio the son of Leland and Mildred (Ling) Ries. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Nimitz. Surviving are his wife, Kathy DeBruyn Anderson Ries; children, Mark Ries, Steve (Pam) Ries, Erika (Jim) Fannon, Kirsten (Chip) Goodspeed, Ron Anderson; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Erma Kallenborn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth and Mary. Bob was a co-founder of PlexiCase, Inc. in Wyoming, Michigan founded in 1986. Bob was a lifetime member of Creston Rod & Gun Club where he was a champion skeet and trap shooter. He loved golfing which he enjoyed with his wife, Kathy, son, Steve and friends. He even shot three hole-in-ones during his lifetime! He also loved fishing and hunting geese which he enjoyed with his son, Mark. One of his all-time favorite past-times was watching his sons, Mark and Steve play hockey from the time they were children and into their adult hockey days. Bob and Kathy enjoyed many winters in Florida where he made many special friends and enjoyed many 4:00 happy hours. He valued close friendships and time with family, giving his whole heart to those relationships. Bob will be missed by many but made it clear that he had accepted Christ into his life and when ready, he will live eternally in heaven.
