Robert L. Hunter, 74 of Cedar Springs, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at his home. Mr. Hunter was born December 9, 1934 in Cedar Springs, MI the son of Leslie and Leona (Purdy) Hunter. He was a fuel and gas transporter and retired from American Gas & Oil Co. in Sparta. Bob volunteered for the Cedar Springs Fire Department for 23 years and served as Chief for 11 years. He was a man of integrity and a very kind and generous person. He loved to spend time with his family, and his favorite hobbies were fishing and bowling. Surviving are his wife Rose (Wesche) whom he married on June 6, 1952; four children, Ken & Paula Hunter of Big Rapids, Roger Hunter of Rockford, Jim & Sallie Hunter of Caledonia, Robin & Dave Hole of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two brothers, Rowland & Margaret Hunter of Indiana, Gordon & Joyce Hunter of Ovid; sister-in-law, Pat Hunter of Idlewild; two aunts, Carrie Zeck, Dorothy Thomas; one uncle, Ray Hunter; many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Hunter and Jack Hunter. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am. Pastor Jim Howard officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cedar Springs Fire Department.
