Robert M. Alonzo, 85 of Cedar Springs, passed away Friday, November 28, 2008 in Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Alonzo was born May 10, 1923 in Allen, Texas the son of Lino and Elisa (Massiatte) Alonzo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He had worked at General Motors Plant #2 for 19 years retiring in 1979, and was a member of the Cedar Springs American Legion Post #287 and the Sparta Moose Lodge #50. He leaves behind his special friend, Peggy Miedema of Cedar Springs; his children, Robert (Carmen) Alonzo of Cottonwood, AZ, Ronald Alonzo of Comstock Park, Barbara (Jerry) Lafave of Moore, SC, Deborah (Mike) Sulen of Mineola, TX, Martin (Belinda) Alonzo of Farmington, NM, Katherine Alonzo of Fairbanks, AK, Cheri (Doug) Durst of Cedar Springs; his former wife and mother of his children, Lorraine Alonzo of Comstock Park; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Rose (Jack) Hayward of Delton, MI, Jane Goebel of Delton, MI, Liz (Mort) Maizlish of Santa Barbara, CA. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services will be held Friday, May 22 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Courtland Township Cemetery with military honors.
