Randal Lee VanDyke, age 70, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on December 8, 1955, in Grand Rapids, the oldest of three children of Donald & Winifred (Maxwell) VanDyke. Randy worked for American Seating Company for 44 years until his retirement in 2019. He became a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and ended his career in the Model Shop using plans from engineers and making prototypes for bus and stadium seats.
Growing up he enjoyed sports and then coaching youth baseballand softball as a father. He loved hunting and downhill skiing, but summer was his favorite. Summers meant sun, fishing, boating, and skiing. After spending summers on Upper Lake as a child, he bought a cottage so his children could experience the same thing. The cottage eventually became his year-round home. The smile on his face when he was driving his speed boat towing kids on tubes was infectious! When you heard him say “Alright, here we go!” you better be ready!
Randy is survived by his children Scott (Sarah) VanDyke and Audrey (Joel) Valley; grandchildren Royal, Daylen, Alyssa, Teig, Emma and Winnie; mother Win; siblings Ron VanDyke and Cherri (Pete) Rose; several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Don, and sister-in-law, Chris VanDyke.
The family will receive guests Friday evening, June 19, at K.E. Pike Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 pm. A private family graveside service will be held on June 20. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Michigan Outdoor Wishmakers.
