With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved and cherished Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Aunt, Friend, and Family Matriarch Patricia Joan Totten age 91, on the afternoon of June 25, 2024. Patricia lived life with a heart full of kindness, compassion, and generosity for her family and friends.
Patricia was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on February 14, 1933, where she grew up, was married, and raised her eight children. Later in life she moved to Sand Lake and Cedar Springs area where she graduated from Cedar Springs High. She worked at Keeler Brass Company and Doehler-Jarvis. Patricia was born to Mother Vernice Clemence and Father Leonard Roy Hallam. She was the oldest child of eight children and has seven siblings Esther, Carol, Keith, Joyce, Sue, Walter and Floyd.
After early retirement in 1995 she enjoyed canning fresh vegetables and fruits gathered from her garden, cooking, craftmaking, spending quality time with her many grandchildren, weekend travels all around Michigan and the U.P. as well as to Missouri. At the young age of 70, February 2003, she moved away from Michigan for the very first time to Mesa, Arizona. She spent her later retirement years enjoying aquatic exercise activities, bike riding, weekend cookouts in the retirement community, making new friends, and country dancing which she thoroughly loved.
In June 2013 she moved to San Diego, California and closer to her youngest son Jesse where they shared a lifetime of memories walking on the beach, riding bikes on the boardwalk, vacations in and all-around California. Over the years she built a treasure trove of memories by taking trips to Michigan, Oregon, Colorado, Louisiana, Texas, Missouri, and Minnesota visiting her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.
She will be missed by her surviving children; Robert, Tom, Barbara, Shelia, Floyd and Jesse; her thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. Patricia is preceded in death by her late husband Lloyd Charles Totten, her son Arnold, her daughter Nathalia, and Mother Vernice Clemence, and Father Leonard Roy Hallam.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, September 7th, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at K.E. Pike Funeral Home 13603 Northland Dr. Cedar Springs, MI 49319. Followed by a funeral procession to Sand Lake Cemetery for final interment at 11:45 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend a post-funeral gathering for lite lunch and beverage at the Sand Lake Old VFW Hall located at 2 East Maple Street Sand Lake, MI 49343.
