She graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central in 1956. Pat married Richard “Dick” Capek at the Shamrock Tavern on Beaver Island in 1963. They lived in Whitehall and Wyoming, MI before settling in Cedar Springs, MI in 1974. Pat fell in love with the town and threw herself into it. She was a dressmaker and seamstress to many. She and her best friend, Dorothy Bishop owned and operated The Sewing Room from 1980 to 1991. She was the dressmaker to the Red Flannel Festival for many years, and made 21 Red Flannel Queen dresses as well as the Keystone Kops uniforms. Pat was also one of the three original Red Flannel Witches and Rotary Club Chickens (along with Dorothy Bishop and Linda Hunt). She had a civic mind and gave countless hours to her community. She served 16 years (interrupted) on the City Council and was very involved in numerous City, County and State government committees, including Rotary Club, Women’s Club, Michigan Municipal League, Elected Officials Academy, Red Flannel Festival as well as various Fine Arts and Community activities. She was also a routine blood donor and would give every month. Pat had a flair for entertaining and thrived at making everything “extra-extra” special and elaborate.
