Niels T. Andersen, 88 of Wyoming, Ohio formerly of Cedar Springs, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. Niels was born April 1, 1922 in Northampton, MA the son of Soren and Myrtle (Waite) Andersen. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. His associations in Cedar Springs included being a founding member of the Cedar Springs Historical Museum, Director of the Cedar Springs Chamber of Commerce, founding member of Creative Technologies Academy, Dean of Jordan Energy Institute, Past President of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, past chairman of the Red Flannel Committee. He worked for Ford Motor Company for 12 years and had owned and was Editor and Publisher of the Cedar Springs Clipper, Rockford Register, Sparta Sentinel, the Dalton, MA News-Record, and the Cedar Springs Bugle. Surviving are his wife Edna whom he met in the U.S. Army and married on December 21, 1945; 3 children, Soren Andersen of Seattle, WA, Beth Andersen of Ann Arbor, Karen (Ronald) Meier of Wyoming, Ohio; 6 grandchildren, Tony, Carmen, Joe, Jack, Steven, and Tom; 2 brothers, Robert Andersen of Andover, MA and Howard Andersen of Northampton, MA; special friend, Waleed Howrani of Ann Arbor. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Linda Rombough and a brother, Myron Andersen. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Sunday at 1:00 pm. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Public Library or the Cedar Springs Historical Museum.
