Michael “Mike” Kain age 78, died Saturday, December 28, 2024 at his home in Coral surrounded by family. He was born on January 27, 1946, the son of Thomas and Norma (Ward) Kain. He attended Lakeview Community Schools and graduated with the class of 1964. He married Jean Rasmussen on August 20, 1966 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church in Lakeview. Mike enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1968.
Mike was a man of many trades. He was a carpenter, retired from the railroad and most recently owner of Kain’s Fur Shed. He was a mentor to many new trappers that would stop in to sell their fur and leave with new knowledge shared by Mike. There wasn’t a single little one that would come in with their dad or grandpa that didn’t leave without their very own trap and lesson on how to set and bait it. Mike always said he needed to keep the trapping going with the new generation.
Mike and Jean enjoyed traveling each summer to their favorite Trapping Conventions to reconnect with friends they made throughout the years. Mike had a passion for the outdoors. He loved to trap, hunt, fish, and plant a huge garden every year to share with everyone.
He will be missed by all his friends and family.
