Mary P. (Post) Smith

September 1, 1950 — June 11, 2019

 Mary P. (Post) Smith age 68 of Big Rapids, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Mary was born September 1, 1950 in Grand Rapids MI, the daughter of Hugh and Doris (Ruppert) Grannis. She graduated from Cedar Springs High School in 1968 where she excelled in her classes, band and basketball. She then attended Central Michigan University and graduated with a bachelor of Science in Education. Mary then worked for Triple A Travel in Mt. Pleasant and eventually moved to the Big Rapids Branch, ending as Branch manager of AAA in Kentwood where she finished a 29 year career.  Her favorite past time was visiting with her son and family in Florida. In 2013, she moved to the home of the love of her life, Jim Fisher of Big Rapids. There they summered in Michigan and wintered in Florida with a wonderful group of friends. She enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Europe and many trips of leisure. She enjoyed many visits with son Jasen Post, wife Angela, and two granddaughters Taylor and Jorden who were the light of her life. Life was a gift to Mary. She cherished each day!!! In October of 2017 she was diagnosed with cancer and began treatments. She fought strongly for almost two years. She had many supporting relatives, friends, and neighbors for which she was thankful and grateful. Two who kept her on her toes were Jan and Judy.  Surviving Mary are her dearest love, Jim Fisher; son, Jasen, wife, Angela; and two granddaughters, Taylor and Jorden. She also leaves sisters, Sue (Phil) Harrison, Sally Grayvold, Dena (Jeff) Wright; brothers, Dan (Sally) Grannis, Jon (Venita) Grannis; sister exchange student from Australia, Ginette; five nephews, four nieces, three grandnephews, and six grandnieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Lou Grayvold; niece, Erin Jeanne Grannis. The family will greet friends Wednesday, June 19, 2019  from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Pastor Chuck Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Susan P. Wheatlake Wellness Center, 4499 - 220th Ave. Reed City, MI 49677.
