Livestream link for service at Tribucast Named for her Irish great grandmother; daughter of Jack and Eleanor of 1321 Hope St. SE, Grand Rapids; wife of Jay, mother and grandmother, sister and aunt, career teacher and principal extraordinaire, friend to many. Educated at St. Thomas and Marywood Academy in Grand Rapids, Western Michigan University (BA), Michigan State (MA) and Columbia University (E ED). Learning and education were her lifelong passion. Started her teaching career in Wyoming, Michigan, where her mother was a teacher, and ended her over 40 year career as the beloved principal of Washington School in Washington Township, NJ. She loved the cottage on Lake Montcalm, where she spent long hours rowing, playing bridge and cribbage with her family; loved to cook and her gourmet club; to walk, run and bike for miles; to attend daily mass before her drive to school; to light up the dance floor with Jay; to live her faith by helping others in need. She loved Broadway shows, travel, New York City, winters in Sarasota, trips to Italy, and music (the Everly Brothers, Johnny Mathis, Barry Manilow and Rod Stewart). She was beautiful inside and out. Mary loved her family: husband of 56 years Jay; daughter, Molly; son, Matt (Sarah); brothers, John (Carol) and Tom (Ann) O’Donovan; granddaughter, Maggie Mysliwiec; the Mysliwiecs, O’Donovans and Dawsons in Michigan and around the country. A special thank you to the staff at StoryPoint who took such good care of her. She felt at home. May you be at peace. A private service will be held and live streamed on Thursday, December 31. Arrangements by Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, MI (616-696-1410).
