Martin T. Becker, 62 of Cedar Springs, died Friday, January 12, 2007 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Mr. Becker was born October 3, 1944 in Wesley, Iowa the son of Thomas and Dorothy (Hilbert) Becker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army spending ten months in the Vietnam theatre. He received the third highest honor bestowed by the U. S. Army, the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism, for heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam on January 24, 1968. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth; children, Thomas Becker, Erin Reynolds, John (Jayna) Becker, Martina Gaul, Rick (Sally) VanEss, Ron (Brenda) VanEss, Jim (Gina) VanEss, Scott (Michelle) VanEss, and Brenda (Joe) Garcia; many grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Doughan, Diane Weisbrod; 1 brother, Bernard Becker; many nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Brad Becker; best friend, Carl Morehouse. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Becker; 1 brother, Maurice Becker; and 1 sister, JoAnne Manternach. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 am until time of funeral service at 11:00 am at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, www.blisswitterspike.com. Deacon Paul Antor officiating. Full military honors will be conducted at the funeral home by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment Restlawn Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
