Marie Caine

Marie Caine (Opperman) 93 of Rockford, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at her home. Marie was born January 25, 1918 in Courtland Township, MI the daughter of Eugene and Jennie (Robson) Benham. She was a 1936 graduate of Cedar Springs High School and had worked at Wolverine World Wide in the tannery for 20 years. She was a member of the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Cedar Springs Golden Agers. Marie was a kind, loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed good times and being with her family, fishing, mushrooming, gardening, casino trips, and traveling. She was an excellent cook and her chocolate chip cookies, apple pies and pecan tassies will be missed by many. Surviving are her children, James (Louise) Opperman of Grand Rapids, Stephen (Karen) Opperman of Ludington, Ivan (Janis) Opperman of Rockford; grandchildren, Tim (Chon) Opperman, Jeff (Linda) Opperman, Matt (Jamie) Opperman, Ron (Megan) Opperman, Rob (Fatima) Opperman, Kristin (Anthony) Perez, Kara (Kevin) Morris; great grandchildren, Megan, Claire, Diego, Pablo, Mitch and Gabby Opperman, Tyler, Anna, Kaelynn, Molly, Tia and Haley Perez, Kalina and Brenden Morris; sister, Jean Chulski of Cedar Springs; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Ronald Opperman and Ford Caine; sisters, Marian (Vern) Ward, Marjorie (Maurice) Mulford, Jane (Chuck) Rice; brothers, Fernando (Dorothea) Benham, Leon (Eileen) Benham; special cousin, Sam (Eloise) Benham; sister-in-law, Ardella Helenius Crump; brothers-in-law, Ross Pratt and Karl Chulski; special friend, John McInnis. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church.
