Lyle E Hawkins age 88 of Ensley Township, Sand Lake went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 5, 2024 at his home. He was born June 10, 1935 in Solon Township, MI the son of Charles and Lottie (Caldwell) Hawkins. Lyle was known as a man of faith, integrity, steady resilience, and humility. He married his high school sweetheart in 1956. He built his own home on the corner of his parent’s farm and resided there for 68 years until his death. He lived a life of service as a lay leader (deacon) in his church. He spent most of his career working for BOW Construction as a brick mason and site foreman. He also used his skill as a mason to minister to local camps, his church, and in a missions trip to Africa. In his community, he was counted on as a craftsman who would never overcharge. As a father and grandfather, he demonstrated his love through helping with building and house projects and woodworking crafts. He also loved spending time outside and on the lake with his family. Surviving are his wife, Donna (Bennett) who he married on June 16, 1956; children, Paula (David) Dufendach, Timothy (Rebecca) Hawkins, Janice (Phil) Niekerk, Jennifer (Lee) French; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruthann) Hawkins; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Edwin Hawkins and Linda Sommer. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Magnify Church – Ensley Campus, 7077 120th, Sand Lake. The service will begin at 11:00 am.
