Larry Dean Wood was born on January 28, 1946, to Charlie and Reah (Albrecht) in Kent City, MI. He passed away quietly on May 24, 2024, at the age of 78, with his wife of 51 years, Marie, at his side. He grew up in Cedar Springs with his brothers. After graduating Lakeview High School in 1964, he enlisted in the United States Navy Reserves. He served on the USS Klondike as a storekeeper, 3rd Class. In 1972, he married Marie Tompkins. They spent most of their married life in Howard City, MI, with their children and later, grandchildren. Larry worked throughout the area for many years as a typewriter and copier repairman for Royal Typewriter and Wolverine World Wide. In 1992, he graduated from NIT with an Associate’s Degree in electronics. He medically retired in 1994, at the age of 48. He spent his retirement years as quietly as he could, seeing that he loved to talk to people and tell jokes. He enjoyed science fiction, firearms, and music, ranging from traditional hymns to The Beatles. He could oftentimes be found chatting on the phone or playing solitaire on the computer. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters-in-law, Terri Wood and Susan Wood. Larry is survived by his wife, Marie; his children, William (Betsy) Trowbridge of Howard City, MI, Tony (Taylor) Wood of Hersey, MI, Amanda (Gordon) Rizor of Chesapeake, VA; brothers, Dallas, Stanley, Tracey and William; seven granddaughters, Christine, Victoria (Majid), Stephanie (Dennis II), Holly, Hannah, Anya, Nova; five grandsons, Zachary, Nathan, Andrew, Alessian, Warden; 6 great grandchildren with one on the way; several, nieces, nephews, cousins. The family will greet friends Tuesday May 28 from 6:00-8:00 pm at K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. A Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 29 at Huggard Bible Church, 8860 21 Mile Road, Sand Lake with visitation at 10:00 am with a luncheon immediately following the service.
