Knute "Shine" O. Cotten Jr.

Knute O. "Shine" Cotten, Jr., 85 of Sand Lake, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at home. Knute was born September 13, 1926 in Heth, Arkansas the son of Knute and Lottie (Wait) Cotten, Sr. He worked for Shaw Crane Industries (Dresser Industries) for 37 years. He enjoyed coin collecting and gardening. His true passion was finding dilapidated tractors and bringing them to life and visiting with neighbors and friends. He and his wife were proud to be Ensley residents for 54 years and had lived in Florida for the past 12 years. Surviving are his children, Dennis (Jayne) Cotten of Grand Rapids, Debra (John) Castle of St. Cloud, FL, Kathy (Dan) Butler of Sand Lake; grandchildren, Shannon Henderson, Jessica Jansen, Kara McCarty, Sheryl Detrick, Melissa Thompson, Denny Cotten, Kim Thompson; great grandchildren, Devin and Taylor McCarty, Kennedy, James and John Henderson, Kaley, Allison and Alexis Jansen, Joshua, Noah and Lauren Detrick, Brenna, Savanah and Juliann Thompson; brothers, Harry (Carla) Cotten, Bill Cotten; sisters, Charlotte Ann (Tommy) Pearson, Betty Burns, Dorothy McClain; many nieces and nephews including a special niece, Barb Cotten. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; son, Ollie; grandson, Kyle Boss; brothers, Charles, Elmer, and Floyd Cotten; sisters, Helen Anderson and Ruth Peterson. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where services will be held Saturday 11:00 am. Pastor James Uhe officiating. Interment North Ensley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, Fremont.
