Kathleen Faye Makowski, age 85 passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Cedar Springs, Michigan, on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Kathleen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Richard Makowski; her three children, Kristina (Ross) Roberson, Michael Makowski, and Michelle (Shane) Sandman; her grandchildren, Olivia Sandman, Sylvia Sandman, and Hudson Roberson; and her brother, John (Trish) Morin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Morin, and her sister, Joyce MacArthur.
Kathleen was raised in Houghton, Michigan, where she met her husband, Richard. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage and built a beautiful family.
Kathleen developed a love of knitting at a young age and used her gift to bring warmth and comfort to countless friends and family members. Over the years, she lovingly made sweaters, mittens, scarves, hats, and much more. She combined her talent for knitting with her desire to help others as a member of Love ‘N Stitches, generously giving her time and handmade creations to those in need.
Kathleen was also an avid reader. Like her father she was a die hard Green Bay Packer fan, and loved cheering on her Detroit Tigers. She was the No. 1 fan of any sport her children played.
Kathleen retired from the New Hanover County School System in North Carolina, where she worked as a school secretary at Roland Grise Middle School. Her work with students brought her immense joy.
Of all the roles she held throughout her life, her favorite was being a mother and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy. Kathleen will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be held at Cedar Springs United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating Pastor Michelle Vallier.
Arrangements by K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
