Justin D. Kennedy Nelson age 17 of Sand Lake, died Friday, March 11, 2022. He was born July 17, 2004 in Atlanta, GA the son of Lucas Nelson and Jillian Kennedy. He was in the 12th grade at Cedar Springs High School. Justin loved music and participated in band from middle school to high school. He loved animals, spending time on the lake, and had a great sense of humor. Justin enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, biking, camping and running races with his family. He liked tending to his grandparent’s and mom’s yard and garden. He volunteered hundreds of hours with Team Red White and Blue and would always help his grandpa with projects. His sister Danyll said, ‘I loved him even when he was a dork, but he was my big brother that was my protector, friend, and guide of how to help and love everyone for who they are.’ Surviving are his parents, Luke Nelson and Jillian Kennedy; sister, Danyll Nelson; grandparents, Doug & Nancy Nelson, Brenda Kennedy; aunts, Tina & Austin Varnado, Stacie & Dan Rublein; cousins, Trevor, Bennet, Miles, Devyn, Keyton, Ethan and Amarly; many more family members who were a part of Justin’s life. He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Derrell Kennedy. The family will greet friends Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 2 – 5 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Justin loved to be comfortable in sweats and a sweat shirt so please come with relaxed attire to the visitation. There will be no formal service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Team Red White and Blue, a veteran’s organization, or Cedar Springs Band Boosters. A gathering will be held after the visitation at Land of Lakes Association, 16189 Oakman Dr. NE, Sand Lake.
