Luella June Mabie of Cedar Springs died Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the age of 89 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 7, 1936 in Burnips, MI. June graduated from Cedar Springs and married her high school sweetheart, Don Mabie, the two celebrated seventy- one years of marriage together. June obtained her teaching degree at Aquinas College and was a beloved teacher in Cedar Springs for twenty-eight years. In her life she radiated joy and shared it with others through her love of music. She played the piano and dulcimer often playing for her students and church with the Mabie Family Band. She was a very active community member and was "Women of the Year in 2012," nominated by Cedar Springs Women's Club. She also loved to travel, taking many fun trips with family and friends.
June will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed.
June was preceded in death by her parents: Ray & Ruth Schestag; son, Craig Mabie; sister, Avis Covell; brother-in-law, Ernie Ruis. She is survived by her loving husband, Don Mabie; sons, Kurt (Sue) Mabie, Tim (Chris) Mabie; daughter-in- law, Theresa Mabie; grandchildren, Ryan (Koree), Mike (Tina), Nathan (Erica), Lindsey (Wojtek) Dabrowski, Stephanie, Ali, Aaron (Lauren); great grandchildren, Emerson, Failla, Eira, Ellina, Ella, Lily, Jakob, Owen, Kayden, Madi, Maya; siblings, Harvey (Cheryl) Schestag, Margie Ruis, Gary (Deb) Schestag, Cheryl (Chuck) Schoenborn; in-laws, Leon Covell, Jack (Mary) Eldred, Tom (Claudia) Mabie; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would also like to thank Green Acres for their care and kindness shown to June.
The family will greet friends Monday, October 20 from 5 – 7 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Tuesday 11:00 am. The family will greet friends at 10:00 am. Pastor Michelle Vallier officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Nelson United Methodist Church, 9024 18 Mile Road, Cedar Springs, MI 49319.
