Joyce J. Pierson

Joyce J. Pierson, 82 of Rockford, formerly of Cedar Springs, died Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Metro Health Hospital. Mrs. Pierson was born August 26, 1926 in Grand Rapids, MI the daughter of George and Clarice (Bryant) Johnson. She graduated from Olivet College with a bachelor degree, from Aquinas College with a teaching certificate, and Michigan State University with a masters degree. She taught 7th grade at the Cedar Springs Jr. High School for 19 years. Mrs. Pierson was very active in the Cedar Springs Women’s Club, the Silver Streak Ski Club and a strong supporter of the Cedar Springs Library. She enjoyed lunches with her friends and an active social life. Surviving are 3 children, Betsy Pierson of Rockford, Laurence (Colleen) Pierson of Rockford, Thomas (Diane) Pierson of Easton, PA; 3 grandchildren, Molly, Hillary and Robert. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert in 1994. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Wednesday 10:00 am. Pastor Mary Ivanov from the United Methodist Church, Cedar Springs officiating. Interment Elmwood Cemetery, Cedar Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kent County Humane Society.
