Joyce E. Baxter

Joyce Elaine Baxter age 93 of Newaygo, passed away peacefully at her home into the presence of her Lord, with her family by her side on Monday, November 1, 2021. Joyce was a greatly loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was born in Grand Rapids, MI on January 12, 1928, daughter of Gustaf and Joyce (Coulson) Nelson. She graduated from Union High School, Class of 1946. She married her high school sweetheart Ken Baxter on March 29, 1952, who preceded her in death in December 2018. They were married 66 years and had 3 children, Michael (Gloria) Baxter, Kristie (Dean) Wall, and Kimberly (Kim) Hackbardt; 9 grandchildren, Abraham, Gabriel and Micah Baxter, Cory, Zachary, Molly (Bogardus) and Nathaniel Wall, Hanson and Hannah Hackbardt; 24 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; Denise Norton served as her caregiver and beloved friend; brother, Doug (Edith) Nelson. She was also preceded by her siblings, Mary Jane (Wendell) Kik, Robert (Betty) Nelson, Jack (Barbara) Nelson, Ann Nelson. Joyce was a member of Grace Community Church in Howard City. She will be remembered for her servant’s heart, generosity, and for the many cards of encouragement she sent with love, always with a sweet smile right up to the end of her life. The family will greet friends Friday, November 5 from 5 – 8 pm at Grace Community Church, 9920 Reed Road, Howard City where the service will be held Saturday 11:00 am with viewing beginning at 10:00 am.
