Josephine Jamison passed away peacefully, with family at her side, on March 4th, 2021 at Green Acres of Cedar Springs. She was 88 years old. Josephine Valdez was born on April 25, 1932 in Tampa, Florida to Nelida Valdez (Herrera) and Juan F. Valdez. Being the fiercely independent woman we know her to be, she moved, at the age of 19, to Manhattan where she quickly met the love of her life, Dwight Jamison, at a roller skating rink. She asked him to skate with her during a ‘couples only’ song and they skated through life together for sixty-six years until his passing two years ago. Jo and Dwight first moved to Rockford, Michigan where she worked for Wolverine World Wide as a shoe cutter. She continued to work at the factory after the family settled in Cedar Springs and retired after thirty years. Her love for her family and friends was closely followed by only one other: John Deere. Jo loved to mow her three acres of lawn — the hotter and sunnier the weather the better. No one could match the neat rows or close-cut perfection (there were attempts, but they were futile). Jo leaves a legacy of love, laughter, independence and cut-to-the chase conversational skills to her children who will miss her dearly. Sons D. Archie Jamison and Judson Jamison, daughter Carla Hansen and favorite son-in-law, Bjorn. She will remain a model of independent spirit and love to her nine grandchildren. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the staff at Green Acres of Cedar Springs for her care, especially in these challenging times. Friends of Jo will be welcomed at Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Tuesday, March 9, for visitation with family.
