It is with deep sadness that the family of Joseph Charles McIntyre age 56, of Kent City, announces his passing on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, following a courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Joe was born on February 12, 1969, in Grand Rapids, the son of Timothy and Jerri (Funk) McIntyre.
Joe graduated from Kent City High School in 1987 and began his career as a millwright at family-owned Midwest Special Machinery, where he traveled both domestically and internationally. He later spent 15 years at General Formulations, working in machinery maintenance and converting installations. Known for his strong work ethic and perfect attendance, Joe took great pride in providing for his family.
After retiring, Joe found renewed purpose at Bethlehem Intergenerational Center, where he worked with young children and brought joy to those around him. He was a devoted family man, deeply involved in his children’s lives through sports, school projects, adventures, and teaching them how to build and fix things. This devotion continued in his role as a proud and loving grandpa. Joe deeply loved his wife and was dedicated to her throughout their life together. She was his soulmate and best friend.
Joe had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, deer hunting, fishing, rock hounding, and working in the yard. His happy place was the Muskegon River. He loved cooking and grilling for his family, and for anyone who happened to stop by. Joe lived with a genuine heart and generous spirit, always putting others before himself. He found joy in making people laugh with his comical humor, and when teamed up with his brother, the laughter was endless.
Though his life was cut too short, Joe lived a full and happy life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Melissa; children, Nikki Leigh McIntyre, Timothy Charles (Kendra) McIntyre; grandchildren, Isaiah, Valerie; mother, Jerri (John) Stuerzinger; brother, James (Perri Mick) McIntyre; niece, Rachel (Matt) Pearce; cherished dog, Charley. He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy Mclntyre.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joe's name to Bethlehem Intergenerational Center of Grand Rapids, Emmanuel Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
A celebration of life will be held in spring of 2026. Arrangements by K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
