John W. Colvin

John W. Colvin, 65 of Cedar Springs, died Monday, April 30, 2007 in Grand Rapids, MI. John was born June 14, 1941 in Kansas City, MO. He was a 1959 graduate of South Haven High School and a member of the first Industrial Arts class at Ferris State College. John served an apprenticeship in die sinking, and tool and die making and had worked at Oldsmobile in Lansing as a supervisor for many years. Prior to his retirement, John worked at Die Tool and Engineering in Walker, MI. Some of John’s many qualities included an open mind, a quick learner, an awesome dad, a gifted and talented guitar builder, an awesome photographer who embraced new technology, and one who never met a stranger. Surviving are his wife of 34 wonderful years, Barbara; 1 daughter, Eleanor Eady Colvin of Cedar Springs; 1 son, Alfred L. Colvin of Vestaburg; 1 brother, Ronald & Susan Colvin of Merrillville, IN; mother-in-law, Dorothy Eady of Cedar Springs; brothers-in-law, Allen & Linda Eady of Hillsdale; Richard & Cathy Eady of Lennon. He was preceded in death by his stepfather and mother, Alfred L. and Marianne Baars of South Haven; a son, Timothy Colvin; father-in-law, Wayne Eady. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, where services will be held Friday 1:00 pm. Deacon Paul Antor officiating. Interment Courtland Township Cemetery. As a memorial, please plant a native tree in your yard in memory of John.
