Joel A. Austin

Joel Alvin Austin, born on November 9, 1941, in Cedar Springs, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. Joel was a man of deep faith and a devoted follower of the Lord. He was a long-time member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, where he found community and shared his faith with others. His love for the outdoors was evident in his passion for hunting, a hobby that brought him great joy throughout his life. Joel was married to his beloved wife, Hope Lee (Murray), for 62 wonderful years. Their enduring partnership was a testament to their love and commitment to one another. Joel is survived by his three children: son Murray Austin and wife Diane Austin, son David Austin and wife Nicole Austin, and daughter Mindy Austin Abbott. He was a loving grandfather to ten grandchildren and a proud great-grandfather to eighteen great-grandchildren. Joel is also survived by his two brothers, Frank Austin and his wife Joyce, and Roy Austin and his wife Norma, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father Beryl Weller Austin and his mother Lena Belle Austin (Caldwell), and his great-granddaughter, Elaina Grace Jones. Known affectionately by many nicknames, Joel's favorites were "Papa Joe" and "Pa Joe." His life was a testament to his values and passions, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family will greet friends Saturday, July 20 from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am at Cedar Springs Baptist Church, 233 S. Main St. Cedar Springs. Pastor Mike Wittmer officiating.
