James “Jim” C. Tomaszewski, age 82, of Kent City passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Jim was born July 15, 1941 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Charles and Josephine (Nowak) Tomaszewski. Survived by his loving wife, Ruth, of 55 years; daughter, Anne (Steve) Wagenmaker and 4 grandchildren; Holly and Addie Bengtson and Chelsi and Andrew Wagenmaker. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine (Rupert) McGinn; brother, Theodore; in-laws, Aloys and Lorraine Schoenborn, Arthur (Michelle) Schoenborn, Stephen Schoenborn and Arlene Anaya. Also survived by sister, Adele Bush; brother, David (Janet) Tomaszewski; sisters-in-law, Carol Tomaszewski, and Rosalie Schoenborn, Rita Schiffer, Bert (Betty) Schoenborn, Rich (Carla) Schoenborn, Norma (Jeff) Luke and several nieces and nephews. Jim was a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired from CSX Railroad where he worked for many years as a steel fabricator and skilled welder. In his retirement he loved spending time on all kinds of things - wood carving, painting, fishing, ‘playing’ with his tractors in the woods near their home, learning to play the piano, and spending time at the field with his fellow Wolverine Skyhawks flying club members and working on his planes. Jim was a faithful Catholic and devoted member of St. John Paul II Parish in Cedar Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 4 at 11:00 am at St. John Paul II where family will receive visitors at 10:00 am. Military honors by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard will be at 10:30 am at the Chapel. His family will receive visitors from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday, March 3 at St. John Paul II Chapel, 3110 17 Mile Road, Cedar Springs, Michigan 49319. A rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:30 pm during the visitation. Rev. Father Lam Le Celebrant. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
