James Eugene “Sparky” Burke, 94 of Grand Rapids, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Grand Rapids Home For Veterans. He was a Ranger in the Army during WW II where he received numerous medals. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Muriel Joyce (Moore); his children, Jacob Callen, Shirley (Leon) Avery, David Burke, Tim (Darlene) Burke, Steve (Heather) Burke and Jennifer (Chad) Cunningham; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, Michael, George, Leo, Anthony and Pete (Mary) Burke; many nieces and nephews; 2 daughters-in-love, Deborah Ohanesian and Michele Keller. His son Jimmy, preceded him in death as well as 2 sisters and 3 brothers. He worked at Dennen Steel for over 25 years and when retired went to work for 15 years at Jenison High School as a guard where he got the nickname “Sparky.” Thank you to the staff at the GRHFV 2 North for the continuous care of Sparky. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9-11:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Calvary Church. Pastor Ray Mayhew officiating. Interment Rosedale Cemetery.
