James W. Mcmeeken

June 19, 1941 — February 1, 2023

James “Jim” McMeeken, age 81 of Pierson died Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born on June 19, 1941 in Ewen, MI, the son of the late Wendell and Bertha (Pulkkila) McMeeken, the second eldest of their children. As a child, Jim and his family lived in the far western end of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He often times shared stories of his youth during the cold, frigid winters typical for that region. In later years, his father seeking better employment opportunities moved his family to Lower Michigan to the town of Greenville. It was here Jim graduated from Greenville High School. Shortly thereafter, Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy beginning in 1959 and was honorably discharged in 1965. Most of Jim’s working career was with Frigidaire in Greenville as an Industrial Engineer. Through his love of the Lord, Jim was very active in church activities at Pierson Bible Church. For many years he taught adult Sunday School and occasionally performed sermons in the absence of the church pastor. Jim was quite a social guy and a good friend to many. His blessing was helping others with most anything related to woodworking and handyman skills. Jim leaves a legacy of being remembered for his helping hand to others, his humor and positive personality. He will be missed. He is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Becky; daughters, Cheryl (Wendell) Martin and Rachel; granddaughters, Brigette and Trisha; great grandsons, Chase and Wesley Tam. Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Ciganik; brother, Gerald “Jerry”; son, Edward “Eddie” and granddaughter, Bobbie Lee. The family will receive visitors prior to the service from 11:00-12:00 pm Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Pierson Bible Church, Pierson (101 Grand Street). The funeral service will start at 12:00 pm. A luncheon will be provided following the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, P.O. Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901. Arrangements by K.E. Pike Funeral Home Cedar Springs, MI.
