James "Jim" L. Wheeler

James “Jim” Loren Wheeler age 95 of Sand Lake, died Thursday, September 24, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 30, 1931 in Grand Rapids, the son of Cloyd and Sabra (Archer) Wheeler. Jim owned Wheeler Construction for several years, finally retiring at 85. He loved his job, never dreading a day of work, and enjoying working with his employees who lovingly called him “Boscoe.” Jim and his wife enjoyed winter in Florida for over 30 years. He always found time to fish with friends off the pier or boating in the Gulf of Mexico. He also enjoyed coffee at Sue’s, yard sales, and gardening. Jim cherished the time he could spend with his large family, especially around the bonfire.

He was a humble, honorable, and charismatic man who could talk to anyone and never met a stranger. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather, and took great pride in the concrete company he built and the many roads and sidewalks he helped create. His greatest legacy, however, was the people he loved, the friendships he made and the memories he left behind. Jim will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Caryln; children, Karen (Patrick) West, William (Karen) Wheeler, stepdaughters, Tina Hills, Brenda Hills; grandchildren, Richard (Jaimie) Cooper, Amber (Ian) Burr, Christa (Charles) Jones, Tamara (Timothy) Nichols, Joshua West, Tyler (Kiana) Pickard, Cherie (Brandon) Dobbs, Andre Ramos, Evelyn Shaver, Sheila Wheeler, Sean Wheeler, Shana (Steve) Spruit; siblings, Mary Radle, Margaret Holtzlander, Danny Wheeler, Ruth Baragar; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Thomas Wheeler; siblings, Betty Davis, Cloyd Wheeler (Junior), John Wheeler, Carol Seadorf, William Wheeler, Thomas Wheeler, Marge Wilson, Richard Wheeler, Patrick Wheeler, Shirley Finn.

The family will greet friends 10:00 am, Tuesday, September 29, at Grace Community Church, 9920 Reed Rd., Howard City, with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Joel Cooper officiating. Interment Sand Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jim's name to Hospice of Michigan.
