Jack Hanes age 92 of Ensley Township, Sand Lake died Thursday, March 5, 2026 at his home. He was born November 2, 1933 in Ensley Township, the son of Ardy and Edith (Atwood) Hanes.

Jack was a union carpenter and always a hard worker. He loved the outdoors, push mowing his two-acre yard and tending the flowers. He had a passion for deer hunting. He was an avid storyteller and in the last few years became very sociable. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Jack married Shirley (Hanson) on June 6, 1953, she passed away on May 9, 2024. They built their home on Cypress Avenue where they resided until their deaths. They had two children, Terry and Tina. They lost their beloved son Terry in 2022.

Surviving are his daughter, Tina Simcoe; former son-in-law, John Simcoe; grandchildren, Michael Simcoe, Nikki (Dan) Hackstedt; great grandchildren, Danny and Elise; daughter-in-law, Debra VanLewen; grandchildren, Luke (Liz) Dzwonek; great grandson, Henry; sister, Edith Kloe; many nieces, nephews and close friends.

The family will greet friends Sunday, March 8 from 2 – 4 pm at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 1:00 pm at North Ensley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to South Ensley Community Church.
