Ivan Francis Nemecek age 96 of Cedar Springs, MI passed away in the comfort of his home on Thursday, July 30, 2026. Ivan was born on June 24, 1930, in the Bohemian settlement in East Jordan, MI, son of Francis and Johanna (Trojanek) Nemecek. Ivan served his country from 1951 - 1954 in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his time of service, he returned home to Michigan and later met the love of his life, Marlene Loughin. Ivan and Marlene were married on January 18, 1958, at St. John Vianney Church in Wyoming, MI and went on to celebrate 63 years together. During their life they raised five children and enjoyed many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They eventually settled and retired in Cedar Springs, MI where Ivan built their home.
Ivan's greatest love and pride was his family. He shared his love of the outdoors with his kids through hunting, trout fishing, mushrooming and gardening and he continued most of these activities into his 90s. Other hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life were making wine, baking, canning, bowling, making sauerkraut and kasha and snowmobiling. As his children grew older, he helped all of them build their own homes. He loved summer and you always knew where to find him - either tending his garden or soaking up the sun on his deck.
Ivan is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marlene, his parents and his brothers, Otto, Lawrence and Leon. He is survived by his children, Francis (Anne) Nemecek, Dennis (Angie) Nemecek, Theresa (James) Champion, Tim (Terry) Nemecek, Jennifer (Tim) August; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 3110 17 Mile Rd NE, Cedar Springs, MI with Father Lam Le as celebrant.
