Irene M. Nelson

Irene M. Nelson 85 of Rockford died Thursday, August 24, 2017 at St. Mary’s Mercy Health, Grand Rapids. Irene was born March 10, 1932 in Alba, MI the daughter of John and Myrtle (Kelly) Lilley. She had graduated from Rockford High School in 1949 and retired from Wolverine World Wide. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, traveling and outdoor activities. She was a very generous, courageous and strong person. Surviving are her husband, Gordon; daughters, Nancy M. (Kenneth) Platt Thompson, Patricia J. Platt Gillette, Jayne R. (Randy) Bowman; stepdaughters, Theresa (Edwin) Hoskins, Brenda Nelson; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Louise (Jon) Bos; and other extended members of the Platt and Nelson families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Hud” Platt; parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. The family will greet friends Sunday from 4:30 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. Rev. Edwin Hoskins officiating.
