Harvey W. Slavens Jr. 79 of Howard City, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2016. Harvey was born December 27, 1936 in St. Johns, MI the son of Harvey and Helen (Surdenik) Slavens Sr. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard after the Korean War. He had enjoyed farming with his father and on his own farm. Together with his wife Frances, he owned and operated H & H Auto Parts for 35 years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and especially supporting them in all of their sporting events. Very rarely did he miss a game as one of Tri-County’s biggest fans. Surviving are his children, Tim (Kim) Slavens, David (Lynda) Slavens, Laura (Todd) Merlington Shelly (Jamie) DeGeer; grandchildren, Trent & Tricia Slavens, Bo Slavens, Frazier & Alexis Firovich, Tyler & Alayna Merlington, Jade, Jimmy & Jenna DeGeer; brother-in-law, Harry (Laura) Shepard. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where the service will be held Thursday 11:00 am. Pastor Terri Cummins officiating.
