It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Grice, a loving father, devoted husband, proud grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gary passed away on November 21, 2024 at the age of 78.
Born on July 13, 1946 to Edward and Loretta (Marble) Grice in Grand Rapids. Gary was known for his hard work, dedication, and his deep love for his family. He met his wife, Linda, at Bloomfield Gardens and spent 59 wedded years together. As a skilled heavy-duty mechanic for Contractors Machinery, he spent 38 years repairing heavy equipment. He volunteered at Sand Lake Fire Department and Rescue for a number of years and was involved in the Boy Scouts as a treasurer when his boys were younger.
Above all, Gary was a family man. He cherished his role as a father to Edward (Debbie) and Darren, grandfather to Chelsea (Cory) Kulak, Miranda (Chris) Jones and Madison Grice, and great-grandfather to Millie, Gabby, Weston, Kennedy and Blake, sibling to Betty Teesdale, Mary Wray, Vivian (Paul) Mundinger, Carolyn (Jim) Wheeler, Richard (Shirley) Grice, and uncle to many nieces and nephews. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, always thinking of them first and taking great joy in being surrounded by them.
Gary was also known for his great sense of humor. He had a unique way of joking around and often loved to pick on those he held dear, always with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. His playful teasing and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone around him, and he will be remembered for his wit, humor, and the teasing that he brought to every conversation.
In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering, often leading to some sort of entertainment for the grandkids, meeting his siblings for breakfast, and meeting his buddies at the round table for coffee in the mornings. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and playing golf. Although he was tough as nails and the thought of him being gone is unbearable, the memories, laughter and love he left us will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond and Robert, sisters, Virginia and Phyllis, and great granddaughter, Elaina.
A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The family will greet friends Monday, November 25 from 4:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home and an hour before the service Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Sand Lake Fire and Rescue in his memory.
