George Sheppard Jr.

George Sheppard age 72 of Sand Lake, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Laurels of Kent, Lowell. George was born June 26, 1944 in Grand Rapids, the son of George and Jean (McCune) Sheppard. George was a member of the Buck Creek Free Trappers American Mountain Men. He was an amazing woodcraftsman and loved camping, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean (McCune) Tabor; son, Private Eric Sheppard; his beloved wife, Leona (Johnson) Sheppard whom he married on May 7, 1976 and brother-in-law, Larry VanSlyke. He is survived by his father, George Sheppard; brother, Michael (Shirley) Sheppard; sisters, Ellen (Don) Pitts and Anajean VanSlyke; son, Todd (Shawn) Sheppard; stepdaughter, Leslie (Bruce) Westbrook; stepson, Scott (Darci) Harig; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins. The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 20 from 1-5 pm at the home of Ellen and Don Pitts, 1011 Sprucewood Dr. Greenville, MI 48838. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Arthritis Foundation.
